해저 광케이블을 위한 에코챔버시스템(2025)
해저케이블을 위한 에코 챔버 시스템은 인터넷을 클릭할 때마다 발생하는 작은 딜레이에서 빛 신호가 이동하는 물리적인 해저 광케이블을 떠올리며 시작되었다. 전시된 10대의 디스플레이는 그 숫자만큼 전세계에 위치한 다양한 도시의 서버와 신호를 주고 받으며, 신호가 돌아온 순서대로 영상을 재생시킨다. 이 과정에서 전세계를 여행하는 빛은 광속이라는 속도의 한계와 케이블의 길이 때문에 미세한 시차를 발생시키고, 따라서 재생된 소리들은 공간에서 울림이 된다. 해당 작품은 인터넷 환경의 미세한 시차를 통해 그 기저에서 빛 신호를 이동시키는 해저 광케이블의 존재를 울림을 통해 감각하게 하며, 우리가 동시라고 믿는 인터넷 환경이 작은 비-동시들로 구성되어 있음을 돌아보게 한다.
*본 작업은 작풍 구상 초기부터 기획했었던 포그와 관객과 마주보는 프로젝션을 구현한 버전입니다. 이번에는 소실점 사이로 보는 빛과 그것에 의해 비춰지는 제 모습과 공간을 통해 자기성찰이라는것이 사실 매체와 나를 한번에 비추는 감각임을 알게 되었네요. 작품은 구현하는게 아니라 끊임없이 알아차리는 과정임을 늘 배우고 또 배웁니다. 이번에는 마지막 장면에서 우리가 바다 및 케이블 속으로 들어가는 부분을 추가해보았습니다. 제가 느낀 안과 밖을 함께 봐주셨으면 좋겠습니다. 파란 컵 밑 일지도 모르겠네요.
Echo Chamber System Submarine Cable(2025)
Eco Chamber System for Submarine Cable began with thinking of the physical submarine optical cables that transmit light signals, when we experience the slight delay by clicking on the internet. The 10 displays in this space exchange signals with servers in various cities in the world. When transmitting signal return to display, the video plays in order. In this process, the light traveling across the world generates little time delay due to the speed of light’s limitations and the length of the cables, therefore, playing back sounds became echo in this space. This artwork uses slight delays in the internet environment to make audiences sense the existence of submarine optical cables transmitting light signals under that as echo. Therefore, it leads reflexion the internet environment that we believe simultaneous, in fact, is composed of small non-simultaneous moments.
* From the initial concept, I planned to implement fog and projections directed toward the audience, which are now featured in this version. Seeing the light through the vanishing point reflect both the space and my own image taught me that self-reflection is the act of illuminating both the medium and the self at once. I continue to learn that creating art is not about execution, but about a constant process of realization. In this version, I have added a final sequence where we enter the undersea cables. I invite you to explore the boundaries between inside and outside with me. It might even be under blue cup.
